Collaboration

Regular collaboration between management and front-line employees shows respect for all employees. Rather than dictating every policy, procedure and decision from above, look for opportunities to solicit input from the front line on managerial decisions. If management must decide between a round of layoffs and a pay freeze, for example, employees are likely to view either decision as unfair. If the employees vote on the decision, on the other hand, it can convey a sense of respect, inclusion and understanding.
