Equal employment opportunity (EEO) issues are an ever-present reality in the workplace. Business owners must take extra care to ensure that all minority or handicapped employees are treated with the same level of respect as other employees. These issues can become especially challenging in the workplace. Simply putting EEO policies in place does not guarantee that all employees will speak and act respectfully with minority employees, for example. Handicapped employees most often prefer to be treated just the same as anyone else, as another example, and may be offended by offers of help in daily tasks. Include diversity training as a regular part of employee development initiatives to bring everyone on board with EEO compliance and personal respect.
